Yemeless Haecceity

Ask me anything   me: a round peg in a square hole

this blog: my way of collecting beautiful things, and sometimes not so beautiful things. And sharing some of my beautiful things, or not so beautiful things.

Yemeless, adj. - Negligent and careless

Haecceity, n - The aspect of existence on which individuality depends; the hereness and nowness of reality. The sense one gets of being in the present tense, the pure experience of a single moment in time.

"My weapon is literature."

"Children don’t read ‘genres’; they read stories. Below a certain age, they don’t distinguish between ‘true’ and ‘not true,’ because they see no reason that a white rabbit shouldn’t possess a pocket watch, that whales shouldn’t talk, or that sentient beings shouldn’t live on other planets and travel in spaceships. Science-fiction tropes aren’t read as ‘science fiction’; they’re read as fiction. And fiction is read as reality. And sometimes reality lives under the bed and has very large teeth, and it’s no use pretending otherwise."
Margaret Atwood, The New Yorker, June 4 & 11, 2012 (via electronicsquid)

I don’t think I ever grew out of this.

I steal lines from books and my friends who don’t read think I’m a crazy-enlightened super genius.

Fake it ‘til you make it.

The Hunger Games film is on premium cable now

I’m not watching it, but I can hear it, and it feels much more terrifying and significant this way than actually watching what’s happening. It’s almost (barely, but almost) like re-reading it because I’m feeling it, rather than seeing it. Such a strange sensation.
